Decision to remove #ZandileGumede could cause more friction: Analyst

A
political analyst feels the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has contradicted itself by
redeploying axed officials.
Protas Madlala has been reacting to the Provincial Executive Committee’s decision to remove the ruling party members from eThekwini and Msunduzi's Executive Committees, as well as mayors Zandile Gumede and Themba Njilo.
“In Pietermaritzburg and Durban there is poor service delivery, so at the same time, you are saying to your members we are going to take them elsewhere. For me, that is a contradiction,” said Madlala.
“How can
you say they have failed to deliver on a mission, but we are taking them somewhere
else?”

At a press briefing in Durban yesterday, the party said the mayors and its EXCO members at the two municiplaities would be relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
Provincial secretary, Mdumiseni Ntuli says new members will be recruited within seven days and work towards solving the ongoing challenges at both municipalities.
Madlala thinks the decision to remove Gumede from eThekwini’s top office could cause more friction in the ANC.
“It will all depend on the reaction and the perception by the mayor’s faction. If they can accept it, maybe they can move forward,” he said.
“But it
also depends on the replacements. Will the factions agree as to who come?”
