Deadline nears for South Africans to register to vote
Eligible South Africans have a few days left to register to vote or update their voter registration details before the voters' roll closes. Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa is expected to officially gazette the date of the 2026 Local Government Elections on Friday.

The voters' roll will close at midnight following the proclamation.
According to the Electoral Commission, the voters' roll now stands at just over 29 million.
It follows this past weekend's final voter registration.
KZN records highest voter activity
KwaZulu-Natal led the country in voter activity.
Pearl Maseko, Hlabisa's spokesperson, says the minister has urged anyone who has not yet registered or verified their details to do so as soon as possible.
"The strong turnout during the recent voter registration weekend was encouraging and demonstrated South Africa's commitment to democracy."
