Cyber bullying a big worry for SA teens: report
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
More than 60% of South African teenagers find cyber-bullying to be worse than face-to-face bullying.
This is according to a global survey released by Vodafone.
It has also found that nearly 20% of teens surveyed have been victims of cyber-bullying.
Bullying instructor Rob Paynter says social media has definitely made bullying even worse as most youths use at least one social media platform.
Paynter who was physically bullied at a young age says if not monitored bullying can be a matter of life and death.
''I had trouble through high school, I had to leave school, had to do home schooling and the reason it's got this bad in South Africa is because of an unwillingness to accept bullying in schools.
''No school wants to admit to having bullying problems. No kid wants to come forward and say that they are being bullied because psychologically it's showing everyone else that you're weak,'' he said.
