Court rules Van Breda will remain behind bars

An application by convicted murderer, Henri van Breda for leave to appeal his conviction and sentence has been denied in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.
Judge Siraj Desai said - in his opinion there is little chance that another court will come to a different conclusion.
"In the light of the heinous nature of offences committed by the applicant and the absence of any other significant mitigating factors other than his youthfulness and lack of previous conviction any lesser sentence or sentences would not have been consistent with our sentencing regime.”
Handing down judgment in June, Desai described Van Breda as a “cold-blooded murderer”.
Van Breda received three life sentences for the murder of his father, mother and brother.
He was also handed 15 years for the attempted murder of his sister and another 12 months for defeating the ends of justice.
