Court hears Zolile Khumalo accused raising funds for legal fees

The man accused of murdering a first-year student from Mangosuthu University of Technology says his family is raising funds for a new legal representative.

Twenty-three-year-old, Thabani Mzolo is alleged to have shot his ex-girlfriend, Zolile Khumalo at an off-campus residence in the Durban CBD in May.
Mzolo made a brief appearance in the Durban High Court today.
His legal aid representative, Amanda Hulley told the court that the family is raising money for an alternate attorney who has already agreed to take on the matter - provided payment is made.
Judge Shamaine Bolton adjourned proceedings to allow the accused to update the court on his representation.
Bolton emphasised the point that the State and witnesses are ready to proceed. The trial is expected to begin in March.
