Court hears two women offered money in Richmond Farm rape case
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Two women have told the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court through affidavits - that they were offered money to open false rape cases against a Richmond Farm pastor.
The 35-year-old pastor is accused of raping four girls from his church.
His bail hearing is under way.
It’s been an intense day for the investigating officer in the case, Dorothy Khwela, so far.
Khwela is currently being questioned by the pastor's attorney, Paul Jorgenson. He asked her if she'd investigated the reasons the complainants are only forward now - years after the alleged attacks.
Khwela responded saying only the complainants can say they didn't immediately report the incidents to the police.
In one of the affidavits, a woman says that she was approached by two men who she would R10 000 if she opened a case against the pastor. The woman said she refused to do so. The second affidavit told a similar story.
State Prosecutor, Sibongile Ngcobo told the court that she was not convinced by the affidavits adding that any of the pastor's supporters could have written them.
