The court on Tuesday heard Zuma's special plea application seeking Downer’s recusal.

Zuma believes Downer is compromised and not fit to prosecute him.

Zuma and French arms company Thales are facing charges including fraud and money laundering related to the multibillion-rand arms deal.

Zuma’s lawyer, Advocate Thabani Masuku, has read in court a part of a transcript of a conversation in which Downer allegedly gives reporter Sam Sole confidential information and invites him to a meeting.

Listen below:

The State's Advocate Wim Trengove rubbished the claims that Downer leaked any information about the case.

"There is absolutely no evidence that Mr Downer ever released confidential information about this case, none whatsoever and to suggest that he somehow released confidential information about this case is again devoid of any evidence at all."
