The Durban High Court has found that a former eThekwini metro cop planned the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
Zinhle Muthwa's body was found on the side of a road in the Ndaya Reserve on the South Coast on New Year's Day last year.
The 29-year-old woman was killed the night before.
Dressed in jeans and a blue hoodie, Ndumiso Khumalo covered his face with his hands when the media tried to take photos of him before judgment began on Tuesday.
When the judge entered, he looked straight at her with no emotion on his face.
The judge said Khumalo's claim that Muthwa was shot in an accidental shooting during an intimate moment between them, had not been proven.

Khumalo initially pleaded not guilty to charges of murder.
During the trial, he changed his tune and admitted having killed Muthwa.
The judge criticised Khumalo, saying he carried on with his life as if nothing had happened and lied to the police and Muthwa's sister.
She says the state’s has successfully argued that the murder was premeditated.
Sentencing proceedings will begin on Friday.
