ConCourt dismisses DA's challenge against IEC over candidate lists
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Constitutional Court has dismissed the Democratic Alliance's (DA) urgent application to challenge the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) decision to reopen the candidate nomination process.
The apex court says the move wasn't unconstitutional, unlawful and invalid.
The DA went to court, accusing the commission of bending the rules to favour the ANC after the party failed to meet the 23 August deadline citing technical glitches.
But in answering papers, the IEC said it could amend the deadline for the candidate nomination lists, in line with changes to the election timetable.
South Africans will cast their ballots in the local government polls on 1 November.
