Community's help needed after foetus dumped near Chatsworth
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Police are asking for the community's help as investigations continue into the grisly discovery of a foetus near Chatsworth, south of Durban.
Members of the SAPS and eThekwini Metro Police Search and Rescue units were called to Bottlebrush informal settlement at around lunch time on Tuesday.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the foetus, which was female, was found wrapped up in a mielie-meal bag and stuffed inside a backpack by community members.
"We can confirm that the Chatsworth police have opened a case of concealment of birth after a foetus was found floating in the river by members of the community. It was recovered and taken to the mortuary," he said.

The police are appealing for information that might assist them in their investigations.
"We are also appealing to anyone who might have information on someone who gave birth - and threw the foetus in the river to come forward and give us information that will lead to the arrest of the person," Zwane said.
