Community champions to be deployed in KZN to promote gender equality

KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala says the first step in fighting gender-based violence is to change the attitudes and behaviour of men towards women.
On Thursday, the provincial government announced its plan to tackle the issue with the help of social groups.

Zikalala says they'll identify community champions who will be trained to promote gender equality in KZN communities.
"This plan will include [the] mobilisation of leaders to come together, work in a jointed and common approach to tackle the scourge."
"We will have champions who will be in local areas and we expect that will end up at Ward 11, with our structures of Operation Sukuma Sakhe working with our champions at local levels to deal with this challenge," he said.
