Officers to be interviewed in alleged Chatsworth police brutality probe
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A fact-finding committee established to investigate claims of police brutality at a community protest in Chatsworth earlier this year hopes to wrap up its work soon.
Allegations have been made that Chatsworth police responded violently when residents marched on the local station following the death of 9-year-old Sadia Sukhraj in a hijacking incident earlier this year.
The committee was set up by the Police Minister and is made up of officials from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, the Civilian Secretariat for Police and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison.
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini says several submissions have been made.
"A number of statements were received and interviews with those affected community who came forward were conducted. The investigating team also received statements from the SAPS and Metro Police and are in the process of arranging one-on-one interviews with them," Dlamini said.
