Coastal protests planned against Shell
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Thousands of South Africans will gather in all parts of the country tomorrow protest against Shell's seismic testing off the Wild Coast.
It comes after the Eastern Cape High Court dismissed a joint application by several organisations for an urgent interdict against the petroleum company - to halt it's activity.
The application was dismissed with costs.
Locally, the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance together with the KZN Subsistence Fisherfolk Forum and other local organisations say they will be gathering along the entire coastline at local beaches to say no to oil and gas exploration by Shell.
The Alliance's Desmond D'sa says this is in solidarity with the Amadiba Crisis Committee as they march with local communities to meet at Mzamba Estuary.
D'sa says there will be gatherings at the Durban Beachfront, Umhlanga Beach, Isipingo Beach and Umdloti Beach amongst others starting at 10am tomorrow.
"We are calling on the whole country to start boycotting Shell. This is a series of events that will take place starting in South Africa and to happen in other parts of Africa", he said.
"We are calling on those on the continent affected by Shell to come out in their numbers as well and the international community to come out with a program of action", D'sa said.
