Comrades Marathon Association ‘felt I lacked leadership’, says axed Operations Manager
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Comrades Marathon Association says Ann Ashworth has left her position as Race and Operations Manager with immediate effect.
The 2018 women's race winner has been acting in the role for the last seven months.
In a statement on social media, Ashworth says the CMA board felt she lacked the leadership and race management abilities for the role.

She added that the decision did not come as a surprise, as there had been rumblings in her office.
The Comrades Marathon Association says Ashworth's contract was due to expire at the end of June.
Chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo says her exit has nothing to do with the so-called ‘Vanillagate’ saga.
Ashworth was allegedly accused by a board member of trying to increase the number of white voting members for the AGM.
"She has contributed to what we normally reset as a highly successful race in 2024."
Ngcobo says there will be a search for a new manager and adds that Ashworth can also apply if she wishes to.
Alain Dalais will act in the position until it's filled.
