Checkers Rush, an automated, cashless “no queues, no checkout, no waiting” concept store, uses advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) camera technology to identify the products being taken off the shelves.

Then the store bills users’ bank cards that it has on file, once the consumers exit.

The trial store can be found at the Checkers Hyper Brackenfell flagship store next to the Group’s home office in Cape Town.

Shoprite Group CEO, Pieter Engelbrecht, says this is only one of the countless digital innovations under their development.

“The next era of growth for us is about precision retailing. Through a culture of innovation and startup-like pace, our teams are making grocery shopping more personalised for customers while removing friction from the retail experience.”
