Charge laid against Durban woman for calling Ramaphosa 'an ape'

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating a case of crimen injuria after a Durban woman allegedly called President Cyril Ramaphosa "an ape" on social media.

A criminal case was opened after the woman commented in a post on Facebook saying: "absolutely is the government fault.... an ape trying to act like a first world president."


The woman subsequently closed her Facebook account.


National police spokesperson, Vish Naidoo says the case was opened at Brighton Beach Police Station.


"One of the citizen picked this up on Facebook, came to Brighton Beach Police Station and opened a case on behalf of the president, for now."


He adds the matter is still being investigated and no arrests have been made.
