Chances of Covid reinfection with Omicron high: study

A study conducted by Discovery Health has found that the odds of reinfection with the Omicron variant in previously Covid-19 positive individuals is high.
Chief Health Analytics Actuary at Discovery Health Shirley Collie was part of the panel who gave the outcomes of the study in a virtual press briefing on Tuesday.
"If we look at the odds of reinfection in the Omicron period, that increased substantially. You can see that now the odds of reinfection for individuals who prior documented infections with D614G is 73% and this is relative to individuals without documented prior infection.
"For Beta, for individuals infected in our second wave most likely due to the Beta variant that has also more than doubled to 0.95 and individuals who have been more recently infected in the Delta wave seem to have greater protection nevertheless still considerable risk of reinfection."
Officials gave insight on the results of a study carried out by the Discovery Health team and researchers from the South Africa Medical Research Council.
