CAA gives Comair until Sunday morning to prove safety
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Comair hopes its subsidiaries British Airways and Kulula will be able to take to the skies again by midday on Sunday.
On Saturday, the South African Civil Aviation Authority grounded Kulula and British Airways flights across SA after a series of midair emergencies.
The SACAA suspended Comair flights on a precautionary basis for 24 hours after a review of certain policies, systems and procedures.
“We are doing everything possible to get the suspension lifted. We continue to engage constructively with the CAA and are working hard to provide the CAA with the additional information it requires,” Comair CEO Glenn Orsmond said in a statement.
Comair aims to resume our schedule by 12:00 tomorrow, subject to SA Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) approval.

We are re-accommodating some passengers who have been affected and will publish a list of cancelled flights shortly.
The Civil Aviation Authority has given Comair until Sunday morning to meet the requirements of the regulator or face indefinite suspension
“Failure of the operator to produce satisfactory evidence to the regulator, led to the decision to impose a precautionary suspension of the operations in order to give the operator an opportunity to demonstrate that their systems are able to prevent
and avert safety hazards,” it said in a statement.
“The operator has until Sunday, 13 March to meet the requirements from the regulator, failing which the approval will be suspended
indefinitely, pending the satisfactory closing of the findings.”
