Buthelezi slams suggestions he is using royal family for political gain
Updated | By Newswatch
Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder Mangosuthu Buthelezi has denied accusations by the African National Congress (ANC) that he is using his position as traditional prime minister to the Zulu nation to garner votes for his political party.
The IFP came under fire this week for a social media post featuring King Misuzulu.
The party was forced to retracted the post and issue an apology saying the picture had been used in error.
The King is historically seen as being above politics.
Speaking at a press briefing in Durban on Friday, Buthulezi insisted he had never used his position in the Royal family for political gain.
”The party’s 46 year legacy of supporting traditional leadership is continuing for the sake of serving South Africa.
“With this long history, how could anyone then believe that has seen the error on a social media post, would contradict 67 years of loyal service to his Majesty and the institution of the monarchy?”
