Buthelezi is owed an apology: DA

A call has been made for eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede to apologise to IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi over yesterday's last-minute cancellation of a conference he was due to speak at.
Buthelezi had been due to give the opening address at the social cohesion conference in Umhlanga, which had been organised by the municipality.
But the conference with an estimated budget of R 2.1-million, was scrapped. Despite this some speakers and guests arrived at the venue.
Opposition parties tried to get the matter tabled at today's EXCO meeting at City Hall, but this was refused on the basis the mayor was not there.

The DA's Zwakele Mncwango says Buthelezi must be shown respect.
"I have one recommendation - that we write an apology to Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthlezi. He came out in public and raised his concern about how he has been treated. I think he deserves an apology from council. So I recommend that the ANC show some respect and agree that the mayor goes and apologises in public," he said.
Yesterday, a disappointed Buthelezi told reporters the event was cancelled because high-ranking municipal officials had found out he was a speaker.
eThekwini municipality says the decision to put the event on hold was actually taken on Thursday for different reasons - and communicated to officials who'd been organising the conference then.
