Bustling Durban High Court ahead of Zuma's appearance

Former president, Jacob Zuma is expected to make his first appearance on 16 charges of corruption, fraud, money laundering and racketeering.  

About 100 police officers are stationed outside the Durban High Court. Helicopters and police dogs can also be seen in the area. It's understood that Zuma will be entering the court through a side entrance. 

Supporters have also begun gathering on Margaret Mncadi Avenue. 

Meanwhile, the night vigil in Durban held by pro-Zuma demonstrators had been characterised by music, dance and vuvuzelas.

Several hundred people came out to pray, rally in support of the former president yesterday evening.

While the vigil may not have pulled the 2000-strong crowd organisers had predicted - those who did come out were in high spirits. 

Political bigwigs - Zuma's son, Edward; the MK Vets' Carl Niehaus; and leaders of the controversial Black First Land First were in attendance as were ordinary members of the public. 

This included a student cohort that marched from DUT through the city centre and into Albert Park. 

Although they were told to leave their ANC regalia at home today, the night was dominated by shades of yellow, black and green.
