Brown Mogotsi case postponed to allow review of State evidence
Brown Mogotsi's case was postponed to 3 August as his defence seeks time to review new evidence and plans to appeal bail refusal.
The case against alleged political fixer and North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has been postponed to 3 August after his attorney, Makau Sekgatja, requested more time for further consultations.
Mogotsi appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the magistrate indicated that the pre-trial date would be determined during the next appearance.
Mogotsi faces five criminal charges, including perjury, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm in a public place.
The charges relate to allegations that he staged an alleged attempt on his own life in Vosloorus late last year.
Sekgatja told the court that the postponement was necessary to allow the defence team and Mogotsi to examine newly submitted evidence by the State.

The evidence allegedly shows Mogotsi shooting his own vehicle, in contradiction to his claim that he was targeted in an attempted assassination.
The attorney said the defense had experienced difficulties reviewing the footage with Mogotsi due to Correctional Services regulations that prohibit electronic devices inside correctional facilities.
He added that the state has since arranged for Mogotsi and his legal team to view the evidence at the next court appearance.
Sekgatja also confirmed that the defense intends to approach the High Court to appeal the decision to deny Mogotsi bail on two occasions.
He said they disagree with the magistrate’s ruling and want the matter reviewed by the High Court.
