"We're not sure that the knife actually killed him because the knife wounds looks superficial. They strangled him. They shocked him with a shocker from the cattle. My brother had a heart condition. With his heart condition, we're still not sure whether he might have died from that shocker," Coenie Swanepoel says.

Swanepoel says Danie, a father of three, had known his attackers.

The 57-year-old's wife was held at knife-point and made to drive to a nearby garage to withdraw money for her husband's killers.

Swanepoel says the family and local community are in shock.

"I've never known him to be a violent person or anything like that. I've never known him to have any trouble with other people," he says.

Two suspects who appeared in court yesterday are due to apply for bail next week.
