The National Consumer Commission has issued a safety recall affecting Bridgestone Duravis R660 Eco tyres.

The recall is specifically for the tyre used on certain Ford and Volkswagen vehicles sold in South Africa.

It applies to the 215/65R16C 109/107T tyres fitted to Ford Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom models from 2024 to 2025.

Volkswagen vehicles sold and distributed from 22 October 2023, and 8 November 2025 were fitted with the same tyres.

Why the safety recall?

According to the manufacturer, the tyres may be more vulnerable to cuts and partial penetrations when used in rough or wet conditions.

The commission says over time, this can allow moisture to enter the tyre structure, leading to possible corrosion of the tyre belt.

What do I need to do if I am affected?

The NCC's Phetho Ntaba has urged drivers who are affected by the recall to take their vehicles to the manufacturer.

“Owners of the vehicles may actually notice a tire bulge, a tread deformation, or additional tread cuts which may become apparent or actually this can lead to the vehicle's ability or response to your input, whether you are braking, you are accelerating, and this may lead to or may increase the risk of an accident.”
