Breakthrough in DJ Warras murder case
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
The Gauteng government has hailed the breakthrough in investigations into the murder of DJ Warras as a clear warning that violent crime will not go unpunished.
Police arrested two suspects at a hostel in Soweto on Monday morning in connection with the murder.
The popular radio host from KwaZulu-Natal, whose real name is Warrick Stock, was gunned down outside a building in the Johannesburg CBD last Tuesday.
Police say three suspects opened fire on the 40-year-old while he was in his car.
Gauteng government spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says DJ Warras’ death must prompt a more coordinated and relentless effort to take down criminal networks in the province.
“The Gauteng Provincial Government welcomes the swift arrest of two suspects in connection with the senseless and cruel murder of DJ Warras. According to police reports, they apprehended the suspects at Morafe Hostel and [they] are currently in custody.
“Preliminary investigations suggest DJ Warras was murdered for his work in restoring order to Johannesburg CBD's lawless, hijacked buildings. We find it distressing that his admirable stand against criminal activities and his commitment to the building of a crime-free city are believed to have cost him his life,” says Mhlanga.
The funeral service of the media personality is being held in Rosebank on Tuesday.
