Paramedics at the scene said Kwadukuza lifeguards performed first-aid techniques on the child, before their arrival.
IPSS security's Paul Herbst said lifeguards and members of the public rescued the boy after he experienced trouble swimming.
"When our guards called for support paramedics arrived on-scene and initiated life support interventions. [They] intubated the patient and placed him on a ventilator.
"Air emergency services were called due to the extent of the injuries on the patient [was in] a critical condition.
"Witnesses say he was there with some friends while his parents were at home, his mum however did arrive just before the helicopter could take off," he said.
