A critically-injured seven-year-old boy has been airlifted to a Durban hospital after he was struck by a bakkie in Waterfall, west of the city.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the child had been crossing Fisher Road on his way to school when the accident happened.
"When we arrived there, he was in a very critical condition. Paramedics from Netcare rescue unit and the provincial ambulance services worked for two hours to stabilise the child on the scene. He was then airlifted through to a hospital in Durban where he is receiving emergency care at the moment," he said.
Meanwhile, at least 12 people have been left hurt after a taxi crashed along Bridle Road in Kloof this morning.
Emergency services say the injured were found on the side of the road when they arrived at the scene.
ER24 says injuries ranged from minor to moderate. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown.
