Booze related incidents spike across Durban after ban is lifted

While the
relaxing of the adjusted lockdown Level 3 regulations may have been
welcomed by some, it's kept eThekwini's emergency services busy.
The Metro police's Parboo Sewpersad says they had their hands full over the weekend after the alcohol sales ban was lifted.
“There has been many incidents of drunk driving, domestic violence reports and there has also been a massive influx of people on the beach,” Sewpersad said.
“There is a general increase with people not complying with lockdown regulations. There has been accidents, robberies and an increase in people needing to visit the hospital trauma unit,” he added.
He says there have also been large social gatherings, including at house parties, despite regulations not allowing this.
Sewpersad has reminded Durbanites that we are still in a pandemic and is pleading with citizens to act responsibly.
