Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, says the remains thought to be those of the second South African National Defence Force soldier were discovered on Monday by a fisherman in a remote section of the river in Komatipoort.
"An inquest case has been registered, and DNA tests will be conducted to determine the identity of the person."
Defence Minister Angie Motshekga is set to visit the area.
