Black Friday: 'Don't use credit to buy items on sale'

With just a few hours before stores open for the Black Friday sales - there's an air of excitement about the bargains that are in store for shoppers.

But we're being advised not to shop till we drop - unless we can really afford to.

"If people overindulge, they'll end up being over-indebted and they would not be able to pay back the debt. So it's better to plan first and see if they can afford it," she says.

National Credit Regulator spokesperson Lebogang Selibi is encouraging consumers to resist impulse buying. 

She says spend only on what you've carefully budgeted for.

"It's even better to go beforehand and check items that you would want to buy so that you can compare prices and see if you are actually saving or not. Our biggest advice is to not buy things that are on sale with credit," she says.
