Better learning facilities will yield improved results: NPO
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
There're just a few hours to go until the matric class of 2015 learns how they performed during their National Senior Certificate exams.
Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga will officially announce the national pass rate this evening.
Pupils will then receive their individual results tomorrow.
Quality monitoring body, Umalusi has already warned that the pass rate is lower than 2014's.
The Higher Education Transformation Network believes many disadvantage pupils could have performed better had they had access to improved learning facilities.
Spokesperson Hendrick Makaneta is appealing for institutions of higher learning to assist students from poor backgrounds.
"We believe that students who are coming from independent private schools - their parents are able to pay for their fees at university level. At the same time, we have noticed that trend generally in the past where historically white institutions were prioritising learners from private schools.
"We want to see more and more students coming from the rural areas," he said.
