Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is expected to announce steps to be taken against schools that have been involved in group copying and other irregularities.

The Department says preventative measures put in place earlier helped curb excessive incidents of matric exam irregularities in KwaZulu-Natal last year.

Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says when KZN was investigated after irregularities in 2014, it was found that the problem went much further than pupils.

"KZN behaved this time around. I say behaved because when we did the investigation, we realised that there were adults, teachers and in some cases school principals involved but together with Umalusi we put in place measures to monitor to prevent them doing what they did in 2014," he said.

Motshekga will officially announce the 2015 matric results on Wednesday.
