Basic Education ‘ready’ for new academic year
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Basic Education says it's ready to welcome pupils back next week to kickstart the 2022 academic year.
Schools in inland provinces will open on Wednesday while those in coastal provinces open a week later on Wednesday 19 January.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga has urged parents to prepare their children as there are different return dates across SA provinces.
He says it is critical that the entire school community adheres to Covid-19 protocols this year.
“It’s not just about opening schools, but it is also to ensure that once we start, teaching and learning must continue, especially with regards to Covid-19.
“We can control that by behaving, by adhering to all the protocols. If we do that, then we should be able to make good use of all the time we have in our hands.”
