Baby's body found in Umkomaas pit toilet
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Police in Umkomaas on the south coast have discovered the body of a new-born baby in a pit toilet.
ER24's Russel Meiring says they responded to the scene at the Hlanzeni informal settlement.
"The local authorities were alerted of the incident and discovered the newborn in the pit. The ER24 paramedics climbed down into the toilet to recover the baby.
"Unfortunately, they found that the baby was already dead. Nothing more could be done to revive her. The incident was handed over to the police for further investigations," he said.
Last month, another baby was found dead after it was dumped in bushes near Riverside Road in Durban North.
