Paramedics say they were called by police who were already on the scene on Marine Drive.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the infant was found near the beach.

"Paramedics arrived there and found that the child had sustained very severe trauma and tragically had died due to the extensive injuries that the child had sustained.

"The SAPS are on the scene and are busy investigating the cause of this child's death," he said.

It comes as police say the man whose body was found on the road next to the Durban Station this morning is yet to be identified.

He was discovered by school children and is believed to have been killed in a hit and run accident last night.

Durbanite, Julian Murray was also there this morning and has told us what he saw.

"As I walked across, I looked across the road and I saw a body. I walked across and asked what happened and I was told that school children had found the body," he said.
