Applications for KZN taxi operating permits flooding in
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department says since lifting a moratorium on taxi permits, it has been receiving a significant number of applications for the operating licences.
It says the stoppage was put in place in 2016 when it believed there were too many taxis on the province's roads.
Spokesperson Mluleki Mntungwa says they also wanted to reduce the number of vehicles operating illegally in KwaZulu-Natal.
"We have issued about 1,404 operating licenses. Some 1,023 are still being processed," said Mntungwa.
