ANC in KZN tasked with finding new Transport MEC

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is again looking to fill a key leadership position within the province.

The KwaZulu-Natal Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC position has been left vacant after Mxolisi Kaunda was elected eThekwini mayor.

Kaunda took over the reigns in the province's biggest municipality yesterday.

He was voted into the mayor's office at Durban City Hall after the ANC's decision to redeploy all its members serving on the Executive Committee.

Former Finance MEC, Belinda Scott is the new deputy mayor, while former Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi has taken over as speaker.

Party spokesperson, Ricardo Mthembu says the MEC position is being looked after on a temporary basis at the moment.

"Comrade Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu is the acting MEC. She will act [in that position] until a new MEC is appointed."

Simelane-Zulu is the current MEC for Health in the province. She has also previously served as the spokesperson for the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.
