ANC KZN to hold briefing on future of eThekwini Mayor
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is set to shed more light today - on the provincial executive committee's decision to put Zandile Gumede on a 30-day leave of absence.
Her spokesperson has confirmed the embattled Durban mayor didn't return to work yesterday.
Gumede was arrested on fraud and corruption charges for her alleged role in a dodgy R200-million Durban Solid Waste tender.
The contract took effect in 2016. Gumede and her co-accused - councillor Mondli Mthembu and businessman Craig Ponnan, were granted bail last month.
Since her arrest, the ANC's provincial leadership met with eThekwini officials to get a report on the accusations levelled against her.

Meanwhile officials at eThekwini say they're waiting to hear what's going to happen next.
The city's Msawakhe Mayisela says the developments haven't impacted the running of the municipality.
"The eThekwini Municipality is a well-oiled machine and the public mustn't panic. We will work up until it's communicated what is going to happen in the way forward," Mayisela said.
