ANC delegates adopt credentials
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Credentials at the African National Congress's 4th National General Council in Johannesburg have been accepted but not without questions being raised about the legitimacy of some delegates.
More than 2 000 branch members convened in Midrand for the conference.
While programme co-ordinator Baleka Mbete was dealing with credentials, a KwaZulu-Natal delegate, Thabane Nyawose raised an issue about the eThekwini attendees.
Nyawose questioned how the region decided on who should attend as a regional elective conference earlier this year was nullified.
He was interrupted by other delegates but Mbete said he should be given a chance.
Mbete in IsiZulu said the issue he was discussing had to be referred to the steering committee because credentials were already adopted.
Delegates cheered as Mbete explained that they cannot go into the details of branches as this sitting was dealing with provinces.
The remainder of the day would see the tabling of the organisational report, then Treasury and then a balance of forces report.
