Activist on sexual abuse involving minors
Updated | By Portia Cele
This follows reports of the alleged sexual assault of two young boys at a Chatsworth school last week.
It's alleged the eight and nine-year-old were gang-raped by four older peers on school grounds.
Joan Van Niekerk who is with the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect thinks children may not understand the concept of rape in the same way as adults.
"Where there has been an aggressive or inappropriate acting out obviously all the children involved - whether its sexual experimentation or not and that's obviously debatable and it depends on whether or not there was any kind of coercion - we need to work with all of those children.
"We need to not label them as rapists or whatever - we need to be saying this is inappropriate and this is why it is inappropriate," she said.
Police have confirmed charges have been laid at the Chatsworth police station.
