93 000 jobs created in third quarter of 2016: Lehohla

Statistician General Pali Lehohla has confirmed that a total of 93 000 jobs were created in the third quarter of the year alone, but warned that National Development Plan will not achieve it employment goals at the current trajectory.

Lehohla has released the Quarterly Employment Statistics for the third quarter of 2016.
Lehohla confirmed that a total of 93 000 jobs were created in the third quarter of the year alone, but warned that National Development Plan will not achieve it employment goals at the current trajectory.
"The NDP wants 24 million people employed by 2030," Lehohla said at the briefing.
Lehohla said that when looking at the quarterly employment statistics they are not convinced that that the NDP will reach its goal of reducing unemployment in South Africa to around 14%.

"The NDP goals are not, at this pace, goals that can be met," he said.
Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe accompanied Lehohla when they officially opened Statistics South Africa's new head office building.

Lehohla said the new 4-star graded green building replaces four separate buildings across the city and that they share the grounds with Freedom Park.
