Management at Belverton Secondary School confirmed on Tuesday that one pupil had tested positive for coronavirus.
The rest of the party-goers were then subjected to rapid testing at the Belvedere Community Hall.
KZN education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they were informed of the results on Wednesday.
"Now they came back to school and other learners were affected and the school got into a panic mood.
"These are all the implication of the gatherings that we are speaking against. We are urging all our schools, especially our learners, to adhere to the non-pharmaceutical interventions or measures."
The KZN Parents Association is pleading with parents to monitor their children's social activities.

Reacting to the cases at the Belverton Secondary School, the association's chairperson, Vee Gani says parents should have been stricter amid the current surge in infections.
"This is worrisome because what is simply does is put a whole lot more people at risk, I am talking about from the educators at the school, other kids in the school and even the families of these children themselves; everybody is at risk.
"The whole idea is for us to take all the necessary precautions and we cant do that if parties are still going to be happening, it's just not going to help us if we are careless about how we are approaching this virus and how we are treating."
