25 injured in N3 Tugela crash involving trucks and bus
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
At least 25 people have been hospitalised after a multi-vehicle crash involving two trucks and a bus on the N3 near the Tugela Toll Plaza
The incident comes as authorities warn of a traffic surge as holidaymakers travel for the Easter long weekend. They have urged motorists to drive cautiously.
It is understood that two trucks and a bus carrying 53 passengers collided on the busy route this morning.
KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says a bus and a truck were travelling south when they encountered another truck allegedly attempting to make a U-turn.
"The second truck was carrying dangerous goods, and it collided with the first truck, which was making a U-turn, and drove over it and returned onto the median," says Sibiya.

“We have a highly efficient team of RTI there as well as the SAPS, and we're also working with the emergency services and the N3TC."
The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) says traffic is being diverted around the crash scene.
Crash in Limpopo
On Wednesday, at least five people were killed in a car crash on the N1 between Modimolle and Mookgopong in Limpopo.
A sedan and two bakkies were involved in the collision.
Two other people were injured and transported to FH Odendaal Hospital in Limpopo.
Two men, who were the drivers and three occupants from one of the vehicles were hurt.
NT3C travel tips for long-distance drivers
Meanwhile, the N3TC has issued long-distance travel tips for motorists.
The concession has warned travellers to use a risk management approach to road safety by being alert, anticipating hazards and adjusting their driving to road and weather conditions.
The N3TC’s Thania Dhoogra says drivers who take these precautions will lower the risk of crashes.
