The Public Protector ruled against a decision to make Mpenjati beach on the south coast KwaZulu-Natal's first official nude beach.

Naturists had applied to local officials to have a stretch of the beach near Trafalgar declared an official nude beach, with public hearings first held about three-years-ago.

The KwaZulu-Natal Naturist Association said it did not know how a decision on the proposed nude beach could be made public without notifying them first.

The decision to make beachgoers cover up was welcomed by the Concerned Citizens Group.

Naturists said they would draft a new application to have the part of the beach declared nudist friendly.
