As the Hawks have confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the murders of eight people at a homestead on the south coast, relatives say they are in the dark and trying to understand what led to the brutal killings.
The eight victims, including four children, were hacked to death overnight.
One relative managed to escape while another is believed to be receiving treatment at a Port Shepstone hospital.
Bazonokhanya Maphumulo-Mbhele says she received a call from a family member shortly after midnight.
"I received a call from my sister saying there is a fire at our aunt's house, that was at about 00:10. We arrived to find police and fire fighters at the house and the police asked us not to go inside.
"The one house was already burnt. No one knows what could have happened, this happened at night and everyone was asleep, also there are no neighbours nearby," she said.
