12 suspects charged for Durban CBD shooting

Twelve of the 23 suspects arrested in connection with Wednesday's deadly taxi rank shooting in Durban have been formally charged.
Eleven of them appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court this morning.
Three people were killed when a gang opened fire with semi-automatic rifles at the Brook Street taxi rank on Wednesday morning.
Police confiscated 25 firearms on the scene of the shooting afterwards.
The men appeared briefly in the packed courtroom under heavy police guard.
Prosecutor Barand Groen told the magistrate that accused 12 is still receiving treatment at the Addington hospital as a result of the injuries sustained during the shooting.
Groen told the court that the men face three counts of murder and one of attempted murder and public violence.
Advocate Jimmy Howse for the twelve suspects objected to the media taking pictures of the accused in court saying that he would give his reasons next week on Wednesday when the men apply for bail.
Howse is being instructed by attorneys including Bafana Mhlongo who represents the KZN Taxi Alliance
The state says it will oppose.
