12 hurt after train derails near Kimberley

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other emergency services, responded to the scene, and found the partially derailed train near the track.

Some of the occupants were found sitting around the train.

"On assessment, paramedics found that 12 people from the train had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately no one had sustained any serious injuries."

He said paramedics treated the patients before transporting them to the Kimberley Hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.

This comes after 16 people were killed in an horrific accident in Shaka's Head near Ballito. A taxi was hit by a train after it plunged off a bridge and crashed onto a railway line.
