An investigation is underway following a deadly multi-vehicle crash in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg.
An investigation has begun into a deadly multi-vehicle crash in Pietermaritzburg.
One person was killed and several others injured in a collision involving two cars and a tow truck on Brixham Road in Northdale.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services dispatched medics to the scene on Tuesday night.
Spokesperson Craig Botha says they found one of the vehicles engulfed in flames.

Botha says first responders were able to prevent the blaze from spreading until the fire department arrived.
"Tragically, one person was trapped inside the burning vehicle and passed away at the scene. Despite frantic efforts by responders, paramedics treated two others for serious spinal and burn injuries, while four further patients sustained minor wounds.

While the cause of the crash is unknown, reports from the scene indicate that a tow truck responding to a separate minor incident lost control.
The tow truck is believed to have struck the other vehicles, sparking the blaze.
Botha says police were on the scene.
Baby dies in Folweni crash
In a separate incident on Sunday, a baby believed to have been less than a month old, died in a head-on collision on the M35 in Folweni, south of Durban.
Two drivers were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed using hydraulic rescue tools.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Emergency teams describe the horror crash
When emergency teams arrived at the scene, they found two badly damaged vehicles blocking the road, with both drivers, a man and a woman, trapped in the wreckage.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garreth Jamieson says firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the injured drivers.
"Paramedics found a baby, believed to be less than a month old, had also been involved in the collision and, unfortunately, suffered major fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.
