Fans who were looking forward to seeing award-winning R&B singer Maxwell perform will have to wait a little longer after his 2026 South African shows were cancelled.
South African fans who were looking forward to seeing U.S. singer Maxwell perform will have to wait a little longer after his 2026 South African shows were cancelled.
The announcement was made on Monday by concert organisers Vertex Events, which took to social media to share a statement.
“The much-anticipated Maxwell South African shows that were set to take place on Saturday, August 8, at SunBet Arena in Pretoria, and Tuesday, August 11, at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town, have unfortunately been cancelled,” read the statement.
The event organisers said they had been working alongside Maxwell’s team, but unfortunately things did not go as planned, and the reason for the cancellation was beyond their control.
Maxwell also addressed fans in the statement, saying the decision was not taken lightly.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I’m unfortunately no longer able to perform in South Africa as planned. This decision wasn’t made lightly. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the shows. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. I hope to be back with you all soon,” he said.
The organisers further clarified that there was no breach of contract between Vertex Events and Maxwell’s management. They said the decision was reached amicably, with both parties handling the matter professionally.
Vertex Events also expressed hope that Maxwell will be able to return to South Africa in 2027.
Fans who purchased tickets for either the Pretoria or Cape Town show will receive a full refund.
