Samsung responds to Dua Lipa's $15 million lawsuit

Samsung has denied any wrongdoing after Dua Lipa accused the company of using her face on its TV boxes without permission.
Samsung says it was given "explicit assurance" that it could use Dua Lipa's image on packaging for its TV boxes.
The South Korean brand has issued a statement following the 'Illusion' singer's $15 million lawsuit for copyright and trademark infringement.
“Ms. Lipa’s image was used in 2025 to reflect the content of our third-party partners that are available on Samsung TVs and was originally provided by a content partner for our free streaming service Samsung TV Plus,” Samsung said, per Deadline.
The electronics giant denies intentionally misusing her picture.
"The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes. Given this assurance, we deny any allegations of intentional misuse."

Last week, lawyers for the British singer filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the Central District of California, claiming that Samsung exploited her extremely valuable brand to sell televisions.
"Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever. Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use," the lawsuit stated.
The picture in question was taken during the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024.
Lipa and her team became aware of the TV box packaging in June 2025 after fans started posting pictures of their purchases.
"I wasn’t even planning on buying a TV, but I saw the box, so I decided to get it," one fan wrote on X, per a screenshot in the lawsuit.
Some even called it the 'Dua Lipa TV Box'. Lipa's lawyers claim that Samsung did not respond to their cease-and-desist letter.
"Samsung’s response has been dismissive and callous, and the Infringing Products remain on the market to this day, still being sold throughout the country in ongoing acts of willful infringement."
